She’ll go to kitchen or cupboard, take something small and simple — kadukkai, nellikai, vendhayam — and say, “Try this one da… trust me. Body will listen.

Sugar disease — or what doctors call diabetes — is not some punishment. It’s just body telling us, "Hey, you're not taking care of me." That’s all. Once it comes, we must treat it like a guest — control its behavior, not let it damage the house.

Even After 10 Years Sugar, Don’t Take Insulin… Amma Says These 6 Herbs Are Enough!

Now-a-days, even young people getting diabetes. Office stress, junk food, zero walking — all making the body lazy. First tablet, then second one, and finally insulin. But why going so far when our ancestors already gave us simple solution?

There are six herbs — yes, only six — which can help control sugar in natural way. These herbs are not new discovery… paati and thatha already told these stories long back. In fact, in our own kitchen, most of them are there only. It’s just we forgot.

So today, come sit down, make one hot kaapi, and read slowly. This is not just an article — this is our paati’s notebook.

🌿 1. Kadukkai – The Magic Nut Paati Always Had in Her Bag

You see that black wrinkled nut in paati’s pooja box? That’s kadukkai. She never travelled without it. Whether constipation or stomach gas or body heat or sugar — kadukkai is always the answer.

But for diabetes? Kadukkai works like charm. It’s got sour-bitter taste, which helps body digest slowly and brings sugar level down after food. It also blocks “glycation” — that means when extra sugar damages nerves and eyes and foot, kadukkai stops it.

How to take: Night time before sleep, small pinch kadukkai powder with warm water. Will clean stomach also and give deep sleep.

Amma says: “Kadukkai thinna, midhukkai vaazhvom.

🌿  2. Nellikai – The Amla That Paati Used For Everything

This tiny green fruit is full of wonders. “Visham kooda veppaathu, nellikai thappikkaathu,” paati used to say. Meaning – even poison cannot harm, if nellikai is in your daily life.

For sugar, nellikai helps protect the beta cells in blood. These are like sugar guards — they keep levels normal. It also helps your body fight nerve damage, eye weakness, and tiredness — all sugar side effects.

How to take: Eat it raw, or dry it and powder. Mix in hot water and drink, morning or evening.

Small tip: Nellikai pickle with vendhayam — very tasty and useful.

🌿  3. Manjal – Not Just For Wounds, Also For Inside Body Cleaning

Manjal, or turmeric, is like amma’s favorite yellow powder. Every cut, every boil — she’ll rub turmeric. But inside also it does magic.

It has curcumin, a natural anti-inflammatory. For diabetes, it stops swelling, protects organs, improves digestion, and boosts insulin usage.

How to take: One pinch turmeric + pinch pepper + warm milk or water. Drink at night. Sweet dreams and healthy sugar!

Fun Fact: In old days, paati used turmeric to heal diabetic wounds also.

🌿 4. Sindhil – The Sweet-Stopper Leaf

If you ever chewed this leaf, sugar won’t taste sweet after that. That strong ah this leaf is. It's called Gymnema in English, but we call it Sindhil or siru-theeni maram.

For diabetics, this herb is very powerful. It reduces sugar absorption from food, helps pancreas release insulin, and strengthens liver too.

How to take: Dry the leaves, make powder, and take half spoon with warm water.

Amma says: “Ithu vera level da… even chocolate lose taste!”

Vendhayam is the underdog. So simple, but so strong. Amma used to soak 1 spoon vendhayam every night. Morning she drinks that water and chews seeds. That’s her secret for glowing skin, no sugar, and no joint pain.

It has fibre that slows down sugar absorption, and it also encourages the pancreas to produce insulin naturally. Bonus? It lowers cholesterol and clears constipation.

How to take: Soak at night, drink water and chew seeds in morning. Or roast and powder for rasam!

Paati’s Rasam Tip: Vendhaya rasam is good for digestion and sugar control.

🌿  6. Naaval Pazham Kottai – The Forgotten Treasure

We all eat the purple jamun fruit and throw the seed. But amma will say, “Aiyo! Don’t waste it! Seed is medicine.”

This seed acts just like insulin. It improves sugar absorption, balances metabolism, and helps heal from sugar damage. The seed is rich in antioxidants too.

How to take: Dry the seed, make fine powder, and take half spoon every morning. Continue for 3 months and see the magic.

Don’t get confused pa… just do like this:

  • Mix equal powder of all 6 herbs.
  • Store in clean bottle.
  • Take 1 teaspoon morning empty stomach with hot water.
